The magnificent Vesuvius has always been the symbol of Naples. It is known throughout the world for the eruption that took place in 79 AD. which many cities such as Pompeii and Herculaneum destroyed with rain of ash and lapilli. It is about 9km far from the city of Naples its height is 1300m and it includes two volcanoes: Monte Somma and the Gran Cono del Vesuvio. Since 1955 Vesuvius has become a national park accessible via a footpath. The Gran Cono is the tourist trail that leads directly to the mouth of the crater that has a diameter of 700m and is 200m deep.
Pompeii has become a UNESCO heritage site and for history lovers it is the ideal place to spend at least one day of their holidays. It is an ancient city that was covered up after the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD. It is always a wonderful experience to visit it and see the ancient city with many temples, villas, houses and streets where once lived people who led a completely normal life. The visit to the excavations includes: the Amphitheater, the Lupanare, the House of the Faun, the Villa of the Mysteries, the House of the Great Fountain, the Temple of Jupiter and the Temple of Apollo, and then you can walk the streets of the Vesuvius city and Castellum Aquae, the Via dell'Abbondanza, Via del Foro and the Arch of Caligula.
